Ayuverdic powders are pretty much the best kept secrets of Indian women when it comes to longer healthier hair and perfect skin.

In this post, we will be highlighting some of the conditioning and hair growth benefits of using some of the 7 most common ayuverdic powders. Some of these powders can be used as single treatments, while others can be used with a combination of two or more powders.

1. Henna/ Cassia
2. Amla
3. Hibiscus
4. Indigo
5. Bhringraj
6. Brahmi
7. Neem

1. HENNA/CASSIA

Henna works to stop breakage by strengthening the hair shaft. It also works to seal and repair the cuticle which makes for more manageable hair, a plus when it comes to detangling. With great conditioning and straightening properties, this powder can be used to alter the texture of curly hair, making it looser in nature.

Cassia, also known as neutral henna can be used by those who want the benefits of conditioning that comes from henna without the red tint that comes with using henna.

2. AMLA

Amla can be used in oil infused tonics or in powder form to increase hair growth, strengthen hair, improve shine, encourage hair growth and addresses premature greying.

3. HIBISCUS

Hibiscus is known as one of the best secrets to beautiful and healthy hair. Hibiscus promotes hair growth, stops hair fall, gives hair a healthy luster with bounce, and delays premature graying. Hibiscus has been a wonderful ingredient in hair treatments that combine other Ayurvedic herbs such as Amla and brahmi. For henna color treatments, hibiscus is used to achieve a burgundy to black cherry color on hair. It is also slightly acidic and helps to aid in a faster henna dye release.

4. INDIGO

Indigo is used be many to dye hair black naturally as it is a great alternative to chemical hair dyes. It is advised that the application of indigo to the hair should be done after a henna process (should you do not want the redness that comes with henna) because indigo has not been proven to contain the conditioning properties of henna.

Please keep in mind that Indigo in many parts of India is used as a clothes dye and may not be readily available in ayuverdic shops.

5. BHRINGRAJ

Bhringraj is an ancient Ayurvedic herb widely known for its effectiveness against hair ailments. This ayuverdic powder is used in treating hair loss, improving hair texture, and to stop premature balding and graying and various skin allergies. Alopecia sufferers will also find bhringraj to be beneficial in promoting hair regrowth. Even without suffering any ailments, bhringraj aids in luxurious hair growth. Infusing bhringraj in an oil such as coconut or sesame oil to massage onto the scalp will help with baldness and can cause a regrowth of hair.

6. BRAHMI

Neem is greatly known for it’s antibacterial, anti fungal and anti viral properties. In hair care, neem promotes shiny, healthy hair, combats dryness of scalp, and fights scalp infections and dandruff. Undiluted neem oil is a great treatment for head lice.

Other ayuverdic herbs include Fenugreek, Reetha, Shikakai and Bentonite powders.
